Annette Himstedt Dolls
Annette Himstedt dolls are sweet lifelike dolls. Over the last twenty years Annette Himstedt has designed realistic, expressive dolls. All of her dolls have vinyl heads, arms and legs and cloth bodies. She is a German artist that always enjoyed working with ethnic children and in looking at her doll collections that is easy to see. She was greatly influence in her artwork by Swedish painter Carl Larsson and Alfonso Mucha. Both of these artists used images of women and children that portrayed sweet innocence and soft curious expressions.
Her first collection was released in 1986 and for twenty-two years she continued to make exquisite dolls, each one a special and individual piece. After this long twenty-two year run she stopped making dolls and now her dolls have taken on quite the status for doll collectors. If you try and search the internet for Annette Himstedt online you will find that her website no longer exists and in fact the only way to get one of her dolls is to try other sources like eBay.
At the end of 2008 Annette Himstedt announced that due to the changes in the economy she would have to close production of Annette Himstedt dolls for good. A large amount of Annette Himstedt dolls collectors live in the United States and the exchange rate made her dolls very expensive. She was unable to continue working and make any money with the economic climate. Ironically of course, as soon as she stopped creating new dolls the value of her older dolls increased greatly.
The Annette Himstedt dolls are beautifully made and very realistic. The sweet faces of these dolls give them an expression that can only be made from an innocent child’s face. Since the closing of her business getting an Annette Himstedt doll is not as easy as it used to be and it is definitely more expensive, but anyone that considers themselves to be a serious doll collector cannot have a complete collection without one of her creations.
