Alf Doll
The concept of an Alf doll was derived from Alf which was an American television sitcom ran originally on NBC from 1986 to 1990. Paul Fusco was the creator of Alien Life Form or ALF. The title character was Gordon Shumway who was a friendly alien or extraterrestrial from the Lower East Side of planet Melmac, that accidentally crashed in the garage of the middle class Tanner family. Alf was a small playful and cynical alien, with orange hair and aardvark -like nose, about three hundred years age as he was born October 28, 1756. Among the stars of the sitcom were Max Wright, Anne Schedeen, Andrea Elson and Benji Gregory. Alf was portrayed by a live-hand puppet operated and voice over done by Fusco.
Despite the popularity of Alf, there were few Alf dolls manufactured in the past. The Wacky Wobber Bobble Head Doll was a smart doll with cups on arms, with sunglasses and a printed shirt with the phrase, “No Problem”. The 1980s Alf stuffed animal doll was however stopped being produced during that year. Other Alf-related products sold were DVDs and clothes. The Alf doll has orange hair and aardvark-like nose and made up of rubber, plastic, wood, porcelain or cloth materials.
Alf eats everything he can get his hands on. This character is clumsy, breaking a lot of things and meddles in the affairs of others. On the other hand, despite his troubles, he knows how to say sorry and make up with his mistakes. The character showed how he became a part of the Tanner family and the impact it gave in their lives. Audience did not just enjoy Alf’s pranks and humor, but learn from him and the rest of the casts as well. The moral lessons given by the program is the reason why creating an Alf Doll was appropriate for the young.
